Background, theme, goals

The expansive growth of African cities poses serious food security problems. However - this event takes another perspective on the same issue:



These workshops include (provisional):

1. Sustainable production and agripreneurship;

2. Dutch efforts ‘between Rome and Abidjan’;

3. Critical Capital – investing in food chain SME’s;

4. The urban-rural linkage: retail and consumption;

5. Coalitions of Dutch and local SMEs to feed the growing cities in Africa;

6. Aspirations of youth in food systems.


African agripreneurs, Dutch agripreneurs, high level speakers from international organisations, NGOs and (Dutch) government.


The conference goals are at the juncture of various Sustainable Development Goals, in particular

#2: End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture
#3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages
#8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all
#11: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable
#12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns
#13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
#15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
